Tonight, Micheal and I attended the Occupy Phoenix against ALEC march. One of the marchers moved a traffic barricade to ensure that everyone was able to cross the street safely. Some of the tape attached to the barricade got tangled up on Micheal and his camera, but luckily he was able to quickly untangle himself. Within a few seconds, the occupier who moved the barricade was tackled to the ground and beaten by Phoenix PD, as Micheal was cornered behind them snapping away photos (unfortunately, the roll of film was dropped). A fellow occupier shoved Micheal behind him for protection and I was able to pull us both away from the beating and the cloud of pepper spray the riot officers sprayed at 12 PEACEFUL PROTESTERS. As we continued to march, the police taunted us and told the injured to “walk it off.” Later in the night, two people were hit by a car as police watched. They did not aid them. I am revolted by these events that have transpired right in front of my eyes. We are the 99% and we will not stand for this.

Example: Atlanta spent $500,000 in just two weeks policing Occupy Atlanta. A local shelter, facing lawsuits to stop the city from shutting it down, said $500,000 would fund them for at least two years.

HUXLEY FEARED
There would be no one who wanted to read book.
Those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism.
The truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance.
We would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny “failed to take into account man’s almost infinite appetite for distractions.”
In Brave New World, people are controlled by inflicting pleasure.
In short, Huxley feared that our desire will ruin us.
ORWELL FEARED:
Those who would ban books.
Those who would deprive us of information.
That the truth would be concealed from us.
WE would become a captive culture. In 1984, people were controlled by fear of pain.
In short, Orwell feared that what we fear will ruin us.

Wow, so true. Really makes you think about why that is.
Wouldn’t it be odd if life was all about various groups on different ends of various spectrums fighting over which sins are the worst?
Ignore me, I’m being cynical.

Members of Congress had a collective net worth of more than $2 billion in 2010, a nearly 25 percent increase over the 2008 total, according to a Roll Call analysis of Members’ financial disclosure forms.
Nearly 90 percent of that increase is concentrated in the 50 richest Members of Congress. Two years ago, Roll Call found that the minimum net worth of House Members was slightly more than $1 billion; Senators had a combined minimum worth of $651 million for a Congressional total of $1.65 billion. Roll Call calculates minimum net worth by adding the minimum values of all reported assets and subtracting the minimum values of all reported liabilities.
According to financial disclosure forms filed by Members of Congress this year, the minimum net worth in the House has jumped to $1.26 billion, and Senate net worth has climbed to at least $784 million, for a Congressional total of $2.04 billion.
